Reflecting and Re-examining
I chose the novel the Road by Cormac McCarthy.
Question- How does the media influence people to choose a good vs a bad side?
What did you learn that was unexpected during your inquiry?
When we were researching our topics on the media and how it relates to our question a lot of the topics that came up had to do with the modeling industry and how plus size models are now being introduced in stead of everyone being a size zero.
What challenges did you face during your process?
The challenges we faced were relating the book to things like modelling and the media.
What might you do differently next time?
Something we might do differently is look at all my options for the topic and dig a little deeper into it to get more into depth about what I'm going to be talking about. And to make sure what I'm going to be talking about can be easily related to the novel.
What connections can you make between your inquiry question and your own life?
Some connections I can make are me trying to follow things on the media like how to lose weight in 10 days because looking at everyone being so skinny and flawless on tv made me want to be like them but after researching on our topic and seeing things like the dove campaign and plus sized models it made me realize that everyones beautiful the way they are.

The Road- Connections to Themes and Issues
Find specific examples from the media that relates to each of the larger themes an issues that we have discussed in connection to our novels, and clearly explain how they Connect to the specific theme?
Novel: The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Censorship- The media censors inappropriate things so younger audiences can watch.
The Road- In the Road the father tries his best to kind of censor his son away from all the death by hiding it or distracting him from seeing it.
Surveillance- Celebrities have surveillance around them 24/7 because of paparazzi that follow them everywhere throughout the day and keep watch on what and where there going.
The Road- The father is always keeping an eye on his son, and never letting him out of his sight for even a minute.
Propaganda- A good example of propaganda is Victoria's Secret vs Dove campaign. Victoria's Secret you have to be a certain size, and have a certain body and b pretty to become one, where as the Dove campaign you can be whatever size, shape, etc that you want.
The Road-There is the good side which is the son and his father who occasionally is bad because he has to kill people to protect his son. And then there are the cannibals that kill who and whatever they see.
Power/Control-The media has power and control of what has actually happened but they show what they want the world to see. So sometimes they lie just to get control and power over people to keep watching.
The Road-The father has control over his son always having him follow him and telling i what to do. An
other example are the cannibals because once they catch you , you have to o what they tell you to.

Hamlet Revenge Response
Is revenge ever a good thing? Is there every an instance where revenge might be justified, or is forgiveness a good thing?
I think revenge is not a good thing unless someone has hurt you in a bad way. For example if our boy/girlfriend cheats on you then in this situation I think its okay to have a little revenge to cool off. But no one deserves to be hurt more then getting revenge on someone its much easier to just tell them how you truly feel, because knowing how much they hurt a friend is much more painful then getting revenge. Another great source of revenge is karma because what goes round always comes back around.
The Breakfast Club: Social Identity
To what extent does a "social hierarchy" exist at Sullivan Heights?
The social hierarchy in Sullivan does exist to some extent. When I started school in the eighth grade, there were groups. The nerds, the cool kids, the athletes, etc. All people just everywhere but overtime peoples groups started getting smaller and changing until we now have just no more groups but people hanging out with whoever they want to. Not what there physically capable of or look like.
Based on this hierarchy, what attributes seem to be "valued" by the school community?
The most valued attributes by the school community are who is the best at what they
do, whether t be sports, academics, or just how well you dress up.
To what extent do you agree with Piaget's theory "adolescent ego-centrism" ? Piaget's theory - A persons social identity is defined by their group affiliations.
To what extent do you agree with Piaget's theory "adolescent ego-centrism" ? Piaget's theory - A persons social identity is defined by their group affiliations.
I only believe this to a certain extent. Yes the people I hang out with are going to define what others are going to think of me, and what they would put me under for there social identity scale. But it's doesn't mean that what they say about me is true and what I actually am on there social identity scale.

Personality Profile Summary
Based on the two personality quizzes I did in the previous blog, I feel that they were somewhat accurate about me and somewhat not. I think that I am a very strong and outgoing person. My results were pretty accurate for the most part. I thought I was more of a sensing then feeling type of person but after the quiz results I realized that I'm not.
Gender Identity
Gender identity has a major role in our lives for as long as I can remember, whether its through people telling stories of how boys and girls used to be differentiated between or the media, and even through my own eyes we see it everywhere although we don't want to. But what exactly is gender identity? Well as Google and its defined as " gender identity is a person's private sense and subjective experience of their own gender." Its our social and legal status and boys and girls, men and women. Its how you feel about and express your gender.
Some ways that we see gender identity is in jobs, where males tend to get paid more then females sometimes even for the same job position. An example would be actors and actresses many times I have read about how actors get paid more then the actresses just because that's how its always been. In countries like India and many other eastern countries people still think that if your pregnant with a child that is a girl it is better just to kill/abort them because they won't be able to provide for there family when they're older and they're not as good and hardworking as boys are which is not true at all. I feel that no matter what gender you re you should be loved and treated equally.
Stereotypes of males and females:
Males
-if your a male you like the colour blue and its just a "boy colour"
-if your a male your favourite animal is a dog
-your into rap music
-your a "breadwinner" (making lots of $$$)
-your emotionally and physically stronger
Females
-if your a female you like the colour pink and its just a "girl colour"
-if your a female you love cats
-your favourite music is pop
